SLOTH BEAR

SLOTH BEAR


The sloth bear makes its home in the forests of South Asia. It usually wanders alone during the night time and makes grunt sounds looking for fruits and insects. They usually eat termites and ants, they are very good at digging them out. They have long curved claws which are good for digging into to rock hard nests. They have a gap in their front teeth which is good for sucking the insects out of the hole the sloth bear has created.


These animals don't just eat ants and termites, they also eat flowers and berries. Including mango, fig and ebony. Sloth bears are solitary animals and are nocturnal. They grow to 6 feet- in length, and males could weigh to 310 pounds, and females could weigh up to 210 pounds. When aggravated they react by standing on their back legs and displaying their scary claws.

THE GIANT PANDA


The giant panda has a huge apatite for bamboo. This animal takes 28 pounds of bamboo for it daily intake. Pandas will also eat birds and rodents as well. Wild pandas live only in china in remote mountains. They may climb 13 thousand feet in the summer to get to a better feeding slope.
Pandas like to eat sitting down with extended legs. These pandas are solitary and have a great sense of sell to avoid different males. After a few moths pregnant the females give birth to a cub or two.


There are estimated 1600 pandas left in the world. More than 300 pandas are in breeding cennters and zoos, they are always one of the most popular attractions. Much of what we know about pandas comes from studying these zoo animals, because their wild friends are so rare and elusive.

THE POLAR BEAR


Polar bears roam the artic territories and there large paws with they use for paddles are slightly webbed. Polar bears live in one of the coldest climates and depend on their thick insulated fur.
Fur even grows under their paws which keeps them warm and helps grip. Their white fur provides camouflage in the snow but under the fur is black skin.






Polar bears typically hunt for seals. If they can they will eat dead bodies from dead whales.
These animals are masters of their environment and have no enemies.
Females den by digging in deep snow which protect them from the elements. They usually give birth to twins. Young cubs live with the mothers for 28 months to prepare them for the far north.
Females are very aggressive when it comes to protecting their cubs and they receive no help from the males. These animals are beautiful animals and are typically not afraid of humans which make them dangerous.

Black bear

THE BLACK BEAR


Black bears are North Americas most common bear. They are excellent tree climbers and typically live in forests. But can also be found in mountains and swamps. Their name may state that they are black bears but really they can be blue-grey or blue-black, brown, cinnamon or in some cases white
.




Diet; These bears are very opportunistic eaters. They typically eat grasses, roots, berries and insects.
They sometimes eat mammals and fish like carrion and they develop a taste for human foods.
Bears that become habituated in campsites, rural areas or cabins are often killed. This is why you should not feed bears.




Behaviour; These solitary animals roam large territories, though do not defend them from other bears.
The males might wonder a 39-207 square kilometres home range.
When winter comes the black bears spend it in their dens feeding on body fat that they have built up by eating over the summer. Their dens are made in caves, bush piles and burrows.


Black bears den for various length of times depending on the climate. Female bears give birth to two or three blind cubs at one time.

The Grizzly Bear

THE GRIZZLY BEAR



MEANING>Lewis and Clark named it to be grisly or grizzly, which could have came from grizzled, which is golden and grey tips of the hair
.


These awe inspiring giants tend to be solitary animals with the exception of females and cubs. But there are moments when they congregate. In Alaska at prime fishing spots there are large gatherings of bears when the salmon go up stream for summer spawning. In a season like this bears will eat a lot to sustain them in long winter to come.



Brown bears dig holes for the winter during there hibernation typically on a hillside. Females often give birth during the hibernation, the offspring are typically twins. These bears are top of the food chain predators, yet much of their diet consists off nuts, roots, leaves and berries.


These bears are typically brown yet their fur can also be grizzled.
